We need to deconstruct our law enforcement system in America and build it again starting on a completely different set of values.

Extremely. But as with many things in the United States today, unless we’re willing to radically re-imagine it we’re on a path to ever greater disaster.

It seems to me a central theme in our culture is "violence solves problems". The hero in action movies saves the day by violently defeating the bad guys, often wrapping the ending up with a gruesome climatic killing of the BigBadGuy. That's the imagery animating U.S. policing.
