Our military was once viewed with great respect around the world, seen as a power used for the most part to back up American values. Today it’s often viewed with great disdain around the world, seen as a power used for the most part to back up American corporate interests.

I think you’re failing to differentiate between respect and fear, Marianne. It may have been respected by foreign elites, but not by the people.

Let’s not conflate “respect” with fear when discussing the #USmilitary. You might’ve held them in high esteem, but with over 800+ military bases around the world combined with a litany of coups, murderous sanctions & war crimes that would make Goebbels blush, fear’s more apt.

Your military is viewed with disdain *because* it is used to back up American values. Your values suck ass.
