Our military was once viewed with great respect around the world, seen as a power used for the most part to back up American values. Today it’s often viewed with great disdain around the world, seen as a power used for the most part to back up American corporate interests.

Non-Americans have never seen your military as anything but a weapon used to usurp governments across the global south and force "US style democracy" on those who live in a more just society. The brave US forces are used by their own crooked government as pawns. Shameful.

American values like white supremacy? Feudal capitalism? Subjugation of women? Mass incarceration? What values are you talking about exactly?

Gee, so you're telling me that when the US backed dictatorships throughout Latin America, it was not to back American corporate interests? So when the US sent the USS Forrestal to back the military coup in my country, it was with the best intentions!? Oh!...

Is the problem that it is viewed accurately or that it is what it is?

the American exceptionalism propaganda we've all been brainwashed with needs to be deprogrammed. Luckily many in the younger generations can see through it better.
