Cruz is still pissed that cars destroyed the horse and buggy industry. His anger over that is only surpassed by his anger that the Steam Engine replaced animal power. Progress! Who needs it?
That's kind of the point. The energy industry "as we know it" is corrupt, unsustainable, and massively polluted the environment. We should also work on destroying the meat industry "as we know it", and health insurance "as we know it".
