1/ In a very real way, the shift from a pagan earth-based spirituality to the patriarchal Christian notion of man’s right to dominate nature was a causal factor contributing to what would one day become our environmental crisis.

2/ The environmental crisis and the political/economic corruption that perpetuate it are all fueled by humanity’s lack of reverence and devotion to anyone and anything but ourselves. An overly materialized worldview counterintuitively leads to violence toward the material world.

That ship has sailed. We are the stewards of the planet, like it or not. No going back to a pastoral utopia that never existed in the first place. A deeper, ever-growing knowledge of the consequences of our decisions, yes.

I still feel even in the standard patriarchal Christianity, we are close to something better? The calling in Genesis was for us to be literally the God's gardeners, and that sounds cool.

The Sumerian aristocrats and their retainers—bureaucrats, soldiers, scribes, merchants and household servants—appropriated between half and two-thirds of the crop grown by the peasants, who were reduced to serfdom.

I don't now that you can blame it on "humanity". It's mostly the result of bad parenting from a cohort of folks who intentionally raise their kids to lack the capacity for empathy for others. Folks really need to stop raising their kids to be narcissists & sociopaths on purpose

Because they control the government big business has been able to push environmental costs off from the cost of goods and services charged to customers to taxes paid by poor and middle class. The system royally sucks.

Does this explain environmental disasters in non-Christian countries? The second tweet hits the nail on the head. Selfishness breeds death. Spiritually and physically. It’s not judgement per say. It’s hard wired into creation. It just is.

Totally get your point but remember without christianity you'd still be a slave /serfs bought & sold with the land you live on by your feudal overlord

When our own cells become malignantly selfish, multiplying relentlessly and consuming resources without restraint at the expense of the other cells in our system, we call them cancer cells. We shouldn’t be a cancer in earth’s ecosystem. We can live in sustainable harmony.
