The fact that a disturbed 19-year-old kid can easily and legally buy two assault weapons has nothing to do with respect for the Second Amendment. It has only to do with cowardly, irresponsible politicians who are bought and sold by the NRA. It is immoral and insane.

Hear hear. This needs to be above politics and financial gain. The issue you have is the American psyche who believes in the right to defend themselves. How do you change that thinking?

I do think people should have the right to defend themselves. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have appropriate regulations or common sense gun safety laws.

It's been good Marianne... You seem to have a good heart but your insistence that you understand exactly what's going on and can boil it all down to "cowardly politicians" misses a much more nuanced and involved viewpoints. Best of luck in the future ❣️

Oh no it does not. That is exactly what it boils down to.

It's more than that. It's a matter of addressing the needs of "disturbed" minds in the first place.

The law already denies the right to possess firearms for those who have been adjudicated mentally defective or have been committed to a mental institution. What you want is for police to have the authority to *informally* deny civil liberties to anyone they want. That's wrong.

Unconscious politics, lacking in morality and ethics leads to unnecessary human suffering and loss of life. Soft gun regulations spiral back to corrupt political decisions motivated by personal gain. We must rise up and step in.

First off, "assault weapon" is a misleading and incorrect term. Literally -anything- can be an "assault weapon" including knives and baseball bats. If you meant "assault rifle", those are already more or less banned and have been since 1934, further strengthened in 1986.
