US removing 2500 troops is announced the same week as a $713B defense budget & $23B arms sale to UAE. “Create this shiny thing over here so they won’t look over there!” Troops in Afghanistan is a symptom; deeper cause is a perpetual war machine to which both parties are beholden

Unfortunately, we're just shuffling troops out of Afghanistan and into adjacent countries. Not to mention we'll still probably have plenty of "contractors" and other people not classified as "combat troops" in the country, because God forbid we actually end our forever wars.

Imagine 32 military bases and 47 training sites between LA and San Diego ; roughly the same sq mi. Area as 881 sq mi. Island of Okinawa. US Military has been there over 75 years! Over 3X as long as Afghanistan.
