I agree with Marianne's sentiment, but I wanna make it clear that mental health is literally a medical problem. Here is my proposed solution: 1. M4A w/mental health included 2. UBI 3. Fund mental health research 4. Housing for All 5. Higher Wages 5. other anti-poverty policies
The worst aspect of medicalizing anxiety disorders and common forms of mental depression is that it distracts attention from social and economic causes such stress over crushing debt, lack of opportunity and a corrupt food system. We need to look at causes, not just symptoms.

Saying something is a medical problem is still just speaking to symptoms, not cause

I think you're both right. I agree Miss Williamson the underlying causes of pervasive health problems are generally ignored. And greatly enjoy your message. On the other hand, once diagnosed, I'm sure you'd agree true mental health issues just happen to be in the brain.

I absolutely agree on addressing underlying causes of mental health problems. That's why a lot of my proposed solutions are about poverty, since I view poverty as a massive source of stress (and therefore, mental health problems)

First of all, hi Marianne. Lovely to meet you. Secondly, I disagree that viewing mental health as a medical condition only speaks to symptoms. That's why I suggested direct treatment of mental health and anti-poverty measures. Perhaps you think I'm not going deep enough?
