The worst aspect of medicalizing anxiety disorders and common forms of mental depression is that it distracts attention from social and economic causes such stress over crushing debt, lack of opportunity and a corrupt food system. We need to look at causes, not just symptoms.

This what happens when you have a for profit health care system. It's more lucrative to have sick people. If you go to the doctor nowadays you maybe diagnosed with something without even getting tested. What's up with that? Am I too old school?

Yes agreed but also the physical causes. Depression is caused by inflammation not the body’s lack of Zoloft. We need to catch up with cutting edge research and stop with the Russian roulette of psych meds

This is spot on. We jump from one extreme to the other with anxiety and depression instead of looking at all causes - medical AND societal.

It needs to be both not either/or. As someone who has medical anxiety, meaning I’ve always had it, I need medication to stabilize so that I can do the things that help such as meditation and yoga. That said, there are many factors, especially right now, that increase it to an

medicine definitely considers those things when looking at symptom etiology? they are even usually included in your medical record. are you thinking since your insurance is never billed for “low SES” they don’t check? b/c they don’t give diagnostic codes for non-clinical factors
