The phrase “starvation wages” should not be a thing.
Let's be clear: 70% of tipped workers are women. We will not have equal pay for equal work until we increase the $2.13 sub-minimum wage - which has not gone up in 30 years - to $15 an hour and adopt one fair wage. We must end the crisis of starvation wages in America.

Would kill small businesses. This is why the big corporations love the left.

It will always be a thing under capitalism and wage slavery.

Yes ... it's all true ... I used to date a woman who worked in this industry and her base pay was practically nothing ... and in order to make money she needed put up with a lot of rude behavior ... from both customers and co-workers ... Their base pay should be a living wage!

Actual starvation and food insecurity shouldn't be realities either. But they are in New York, where we're fighting against Cuomo to #TaxTheRich to #InvestInOurNY who is protecting his investors at all costs. The corruption is blatant and transparent. He still sits on his throne.

What should it be then? A wealthy wage? Sustainable wage? Normal and competitive wage? It's not wage, its who owns and controls own labor. Too much soft Christian words on pity, sympathy, giving and all. Let's get real here.

$15/ hr is still starvation wages. $600 a week before taxes is $450. People making less than $25 per hour should not pay income taxes.

I agree with you that it is a nonsense term used by unserious people who have a third grader’s understanding of economics, and should not be a thing

Are we pretending that waitresses don't work for tips at the vast majority of people don't tip 20% even when the service is subpar? Restaurants can barely survive as it is when the patrons subsidize the workers salary.
