Although it’s complicated and varied, yields track with industrialization, especially at large scale, and lower yields mean more land required which means more native habitats destroyed.

Of course the biggest problem isn’t industrialization - it’s cows - they use ~80% of land dedicated to livestock or feed and that the overwhelming majority of land footprint of ag.

Unfortunately people still have to eat. This is why we should fund things like GMO research, to get higher yields with less land. And also, to reiterate, eat less meat, especially red meat.
