1/ When Moses first told the Israelites they could leave Egypt but they better go quickly, they didn’t jump up and down with excitement. Their basic attitude was “We’re slaves here, but we have enough to survive. Who knows if we can survive the desert?”

2/ That’s one of the most important points in the story. Sometimes we’re tempted to stay in a condition that we know is limited because it feels safer than making a break for some unknown destination of freedom. Moses is the voice in all of us saying, “Come on, you can do this.”

Yep! They also had to go around in circles in the desert until everyone from that generation had passed. I guess you can't bring a slave mentality into the new Promised Land.
