1/ When Moses first told the Israelites they could leave Egypt but they better go quickly, they didn’t jump up and down with excitement. Their basic attitude was “We’re slaves here, but we have enough to survive. Who knows if we can survive the desert?”

2/ That’s one of the most important points in the story. Sometimes we’re tempted to stay in a condition that we know is limited because it feels safer than making a break for some unknown destination of freedom. Moses is the voice in all of us saying, “Come on, you can do this.”

But think of how batsh*t crazy Moses must have sounded when trying to persuade the Israelites of who would be leading them to freedom. Ancient politics on full display.

You get how to access these stories Marianne, though clearly most people don’t. All these places, people, and events are happening right now, always, in the mind heart and soul of each human being. Literalism will never yield wisdom, and that was never the intention of the Book.

It may be less a necessity to lead the poor from the bondage of their poverty than the rich from the bondage of their greed.

I like your analogy. It would be so easy to slip into a world of being taken care of by masters but it is a trap. Once you learn to not be afraid everything becomes much easier without fear. Fear is our undoing. Perfect love cast out fear. Perfect love is available to us.

Are you seriously trying to say the American dream is akin to slavery? And that making us into a socialist state will set us free?
