1/ When Moses first told the Israelites they could leave Egypt but they better go quickly, they didn’t jump up and down with excitement. Their basic attitude was “We’re slaves here, but we have enough to survive. Who knows if we can survive the desert?”

2/ That’s one of the most important points in the story. Sometimes we’re tempted to stay in a condition that we know is limited because it feels safer than making a break for some unknown destination of freedom. Moses is the voice in all of us saying, “Come on, you can do this.”

Yep! They also had to go around in circles in the desert until everyone from that generation had passed. I guess you can't bring a slave mentality into the new Promised Land.

I can't say I ever thought about it in precisely that light but now that you mention it that is definitely valid and there's no unseeing it now. The same insight is found in Hamlet, the thing that "makes us rather bear those ills we have/Than fly to others that we know not of?"

You make many intelligent points. It’s unfortunate when you resort to a book of fairy tales to translate them. It demonstrates a stunted intellect, which may cater to people of faith, but repels people of fact. 21 century problems will require 21st century solutions.

“The Midrash relates that during the Exodus, when the Israelites reached the Red Sea, it did not automatically part. The Israelites stood at the banks of the sea and wailed with despair, but Nahshon entered the waters. Once he was up to his nose in the water, the sea parted.”

Then they went to the lands of Milk and Honey and slaughtered everyone who lived there except young girls and virgins, all on the commands of "God". How you treat others when coming into your own is important as well. Most folks overlook the atrocities in those pages...

I remind anyone leaving a bad relationship... Do Not go back to Egypt! There is a better place ( promise land ) where you can thrive and flourish and God will be with you the whole way 🙏🏻
