So are they just going to make it a thing now to meet peaceful protestors with riot police, except when there’s an actual riot and it takes riot police several hours to get there?

That behavior is not new, it is what the "law enforcement" personnel have been doing in Portland OR for months now. They have used so much toxic gas on people that trees near the federal building are dead.

Rioters are more easy to hand-wave as mindless anarchists seeking violent thrills with no true ideology; the state is more threatened by peaceful protest because the public are more receptive to their messaging.

Yes. The police are a reactionary tool of capitalist oppression. They are not there to allow for anything resembling even diet coke revolutionary activity or civil unrest.

If the rioters are white supremacists they will literally let them in and take selfies with them. In part because a lot of the people at the January 6th event were off duty police. We can't reform a racist institution by giving it more money.
