People who are forced to work at jobs they hate, desperate to keep that job even though it robs them of life-force more than it pays them in money, who nevertheless need it because it is the only way to survive, are in a very real way not free.

It describes many people in the world, that is true. But it’s unnecessary and inexcusable when they’re citizens of the richest country.

We're also the most indebted country in the history of humanity. Define "free". Government can't give anything to anyone without taking it from someone else who at this point will probably be your grandkids. Is it fair to force that debt in them? Is it moral?

Not any more. GDP/capita is extremely poor and misleading indicator of standard of living and quality of life.
Not everyone can be citizens of Luxembourg.
