People who are forced to work at jobs they hate, desperate to keep that job even though it robs them of life-force more than it pays them in money, who nevertheless need it because it is the only way to survive, are in a very real way not free.

I don’t believe that. Everything we do is a choice. Saying that is helping people justify their victimhood. SURE — there are terrible and disgusting and demeaning jobs and work environments. Likewise there are dozens of ways to gain better skills and to move beyond despair.
