People who are forced to work at jobs they hate, desperate to keep that job even though it robs them of life-force more than it pays them in money, who nevertheless need it because it is the only way to survive, are in a very real way not free.

The local university recorded my oral history for two grants, building our city and the local, dominant industry. At the end, I compared my work to slavery. The interviewer suggested otherwise. Years later, I met a street performer who said we're all just new slaves. #Nevada

agreed. education and healthcare reform along with raising the minimum wage would help alleviate this issue but, it starts with education. people are hanging on bc they have to feed their families - it’s soul crushing. Think about how much more innovative, creative, and civilized

“Change jobs” lol Meanwhile your family depends on every red cent you bring in. Lives literally in your hands and people think it’s as simple as change jobs.🤦🏻‍♂️

Marianne, consider socialism! Not only would survival (and dignified conditions) be a universal right, but you can also imagine labor would be much less draining as working conditions improve, hours shorten, and workers have a real say in how they operate.
