i think it's just better to treat all children the same, as here giving her child an award may just seem that it's out of sympathy when she most likely works as hard as all the others
There were kids during my daughters' schooling who wanted that attendance reward so bad that they repeatedly came to school SICK. At the ceremony, parents gets to watch their kids being left out, that embarrasses the kids who are GOOD, perhaps not the TOP kid.
All they needed to do was set individual attendance targets for those with disabilities/chronic illnesses and then there’s no need for special ‘try hard’ awards.
It can’t ever be equality if not everyone has the same starting point and tools.
Attendance awards are ridiculous - even more so for younger children whose attendance directly reflects factors beyond their control, such as their parents’ ability to get them to school and illness.
