Either we think people are inherently evil & we need to protect ourselves & loved ones from evil in society; or we think people are inherently good and we need to foster that good in every way possible to create a good society. That’s the philosophical struggle underneath it all.

Thinking people are inherently good doesn’t mean you fail to recognize evil. You do recognize it & you see the need not only to protect yourself but also to push back against it. But your energy and resources go more towards fostering good so that new forms of evil do not emerge.

I know people aren’t inherently good, nor evil. I pay attention to their choices, what they say, and call them by name.

Not quite. There exists an evil spirit being, Satan. He is the originator of the lie, he wants to prove he should be worshipped, but he knows he has failed. He controls this system & has blinded the minds of unbelievers. Rom 4:4 proof, how many people don’t know this? Awake!^

There is good and bad in everyone. We learn to live when we learn to give each other what we need to survive.

People are neither inherently good Not inherently evil. They're born a blank slate

Or we accept that, in a country of nearly 400 million, we can't save everyone, we can't program everyone to be "good people". But we can remain vigilant and protect ourselves if and when the time comes.

I think we don't have valid data to determine one way or the other because we have so much untreated trauma and mental illness in this country that any relevant numbers are skewed beyond the point of usefulness. Let's fix that then reevaluate.

I dont believe in good or evil, we are products of nature. I dont use this as an excuse to hurt others.
