Either we think people are inherently evil & we need to protect ourselves & loved ones from evil in society; or we think people are inherently good and we need to foster that good in every way possible to create a good society. That’s the philosophical struggle underneath it all.

Thinking people are inherently good doesn’t mean you fail to recognize evil. You do recognize it & you see the need not only to protect yourself but also to push back against it. But your energy and resources go more towards fostering good so that new forms of evil do not emerge.

People are not inherently either. All people have the potential to be either good, evil, or both. It's all about the environments and factors that develop that person's psyche and worldview.

Love this Marianne. It has become my philosophy and I believe in its transformative and revolutionary abilities amongst humanity. A shift in perception and awareness!

people are capable of both. The extend to which one side prevails over the other is generally the results of env. conditions, trauma, mental illness, etc... I have posted about suicides stats because (wrongly) no seems to see the relation between outward and inward harm.

Neither is true. People are selfish, self-centred, and do evil things to eachother. Most prolific narcissistic evils end up in politics and rule the world.

Broad strokes don't bring awareness, only the delusion of division where there is none. If we truly seek good (that malleable ever changing shape), whether it's in ourselves or society as a Whole, we must see past the broad strokes But, every body sees as they seek

Its not either or.. Some people are born 'wrong' no matter the childhood of love Some folk no matter the heinous shit that happened to them growing up will never act out as monsters and a lot of folks are shaped by the earliest experiences in our lives when we have least control

ppl like most animals, are inherently survivors with both competitive and collaborative features. the good is often associated with the latter. the distinctive aspect about humans isnt what they r inherently but the artificial environment they created to foster desirable behavior

What’s w the absolutist comments when her words “inherent” & “social” acknowledge that since a blend is always what results from being human, our social systems should support goodness, not evil?
