The 2nd amendment does not give individuals the right to bear arms. Only within the context a of a state-level well regulated militia...

I don't think it does, though. It's about militias, not private gun ownership - which was assumed back then, but is not mentioned, let alone protected. The gun legislation we want is for public safety - and that's a matter for local/state governments.

I don’t agree with many of your tweets but I do with this one. The right to bear arms is guaranteed but I sincerely doubt the founding fathers had assault weapons in mind. Single load muskets are what they had in mind.

No it doesn't. Not just any gun. Contextually "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms" never existed. The Second Amendment IS the "instrument" that James Madison was referring too. These 700 + letters exist only to discuss it thanks to Benjamin Franklin. the "declaration"
