I heard @maddow say 45 million people on food stamps will now get $230/mo more because of the Covid bill & “it’s a really big deal.” No, what’s a really big deal -really bad deal -is that in our country of 330 million people there are 45 million who need food stamps to begin with

With "free money" and the government in charge, the numbers will grow.
Where do you get your facts that 45 million people need to be on food stamps? That statement is a total and complete lie. Period.
Agree. These 45 million will continue to get crumbs under D's, compared with nothing under R's. It is in the best interest of D's to keep the status kuo and that's why they did not raise $15 minimum wage either. Their MO is to use that as carrot to keep getting their votes.

Also it's not increasing their income. It's increasing their SNAP benefits. SNAP can't be used to pay rent or utilities. It can't be used for diapers or blankets. It can't even be used for hot food. It's built on distrust and hinders agency. A REALLY BIG DEAL would be UBI.

Actually the increase itself is only about $30 more than before per month (per individual). The original amount per month was so inadequate to begin with, that I've called it "cookie money" (about $5-6/day)

Hi! I believe that only applies to adults w/kids. I'm a single adult who receives $194 SNAP per month. However, an extra $30 per month added in past 6 months (or so) due to COVID! And 140M living in poverty or low-wealth b4 #COVID19! At least 8M more now in poverty due to COVID!

$230 more? For one person?? I don’t spend $230/mo feeding myself. What’s the total??
1/2 You lost me at, maddow said. Poverty is real & poverty is real sad. If you were to do your homework you would find that underserved people in DC, if they take advantage of all programs, bring home more than some working people.
