The situation at the border is complicated and it’s going to take a multi-dimensional solution. But one element needs to be in the mix: a Marshall plan for Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

There wouldn't be a situation at the border if the US were not overthrowing those people's governments, placing embargo's on them and forcing Neo-Liberal policies and "free" trade agreements on them. You can thank Ronnie Raygun and every administration since for the problems.

Exactly. These people don’t want to leave their homelands. Poverty & violence have driven them to extremes.

F-35 cost $1.7 trillion more than China's Belt and Road initiative. China seems to know how to make friends and spend their money wisely. US seems to have forgotten that.

I love how now it’s being worked out and under trump it was the worst thing ever. Spin it any way you want. It’s a crisis. I bet you have no problem with your family living like this.

We could address drug use, addiction, criminality in the US—and our corporations stealing the region’s resources over generations—and meddling in their politics, backing coups, assassinations. Our military adventurism in Latin America.

Yes! How about modeled after Plan Colombia that had bipartisan support for a almost failed state from the drug wars & paramilitaries. Plan Colombia saved my home country & today is a vibrant mostly safe democracy! thebogotapost.com/15-years-o…

Yes a Marshall plan. We owe that area a lot after all of our past abuses. #LegalizeDrugs #WeDontNeedNoBlinkenWars

Apparently we already had a martial plan.
