Great religious stories are like coded messages. Things like crucifixion to resurrection, and slavery to the Promised Land, mean don’t worry, have faith: the world is cruel and it will take some time... but you will get to the better place.

As above ... so below ... all these stories can be viewed as psychological metaphors ... symbols of the struggles each of us face every day of our lives.

G-d dwells among groups of close people of common cause . More people, more G-d. There's safety, shelter, and food in numbers, the will of the people is manifested through large cohesive numbers of people.

Some are allegories for cosmic truths. At the very least, they are stories that relay our historical, social & evolutionary progression.

There is no god, no divinity listening to us. We are going to delude ourselves with something or the other whether or not we are religious, might as well choose ideals and values and stories promoting common good. Faith in a higher power is empirically useful(as AA beneficiaries)

I was raised Christian, now Agnostic. The lessons from the Bible have helped guide me through life. The ultimate being the story of Jesus; that we all have our cross to bear and are renewed through dying and being reborn each day.
