We should lower voting age to 17. People with small chance of even being here in 30 yrs shouldn't dominate decisions that affect those who will then be in their prime. Kids in high school are more at risk, have more at stake, and should have more power in determining the future.

Sorry, if they aren’t old enough to fight in a war or to drink or smoke they aren’t old enough to vote!!

You lost me. A 17 yr old has no life experience. Opinions of parents and teachers has shaped them up to this point. Not enough real world trials and tribulations to stretch their mind yet.

Marianne,I like you,I like some of your thoughts, ideas, but by this thinking,5year old should vote, because they are the ones footing the bills in their future.

Correct. Kids will inherit the mess the "adults" will leave behind, from the economy to climate change, to morals and ethics. If they are able to vote they make sure this will be a better world for them.
I'd say 16 - they can make it part of the HS curriculum. Also, research shows there's no difference cognitively between a 16 year old and an 18 year old. The youth deserve a say in their future - we adults have shown we're incapable of looking out for their interests.

Respectfully, no. While I'm sure there are a number of very forward-thinking 17 year-olds out there, 17 is still 17. Besides, lowering one year to 17 isn't going change much as far as getting an 'extra' voting cycle.

I think we should make it much harder to vote. Considering how important it is, there should be many prohibitions based on knowledge of civics and issues and consequences.
