Much to my dismay, I had to delete a picture of a starling. Someone told me it was mean and when I looked it up I saw this verified, so I couldn’t bear to put anything mean on my thread. I will be back momentarily with the sweetest most beautiful bird I can find.

Starlings are not ‘mean’. They use survival strategies that if employed by a person in a human community might be antisocial. How would that be relevant?

Oh baloney. "Mean" is a word endlessly projected by humans on2 countlss crittrs, the world over. It simply isn't true. Unless something's inherently wrong frm birth OR humans' behavior causd a creature to turn "mean" - the crittrs in our world are not "mean", altho might SEEM 2 b

🤦🏽‍♀️Marianne, you know better than this....Human’s are NOT arbiters of all species & of the natural world. Starlings are as valuable as any other species, neither Mean nor Disposable. They in fact, embody the power of #NotMeUs in their murmurations vimeo.com/58291553

May I share with you an (amateur) video I compiled of the herons in my local London park, music specially composed by my son. We shared my small flat during lockdown last year. It was nice to do this project together. Love from Across the Pond 💜 youtube.com/vlansU4M28c

Oh for heavens sake Marianne, it's a BIRD! And besides, starlings have nothing on robins when it comes to being back yard bullies. Meanwhile, here's a REALLY mean "bird" (xpensive too)

None has been more destructive to native wildlife than the European Starling. They push out native cavity nesters like bluebirds, owls, woodpeckers. Large flocks can damage crops, their waste can spread invasive seeds and transmit disease. They're loud, annoying, and everywhere.

Starling’s part of the One, too, y’know. ❤️

That’s a bizarre take. Nature is about survival. They act according to their surroundings. Doesn’t make them any less beautiful or any less worthy of recognition. A lot of humans are mean, simply because they want to be, not as an act to survive.
