Very true. Poverty - and all other forms of inequality - is the result of conscious choices our society has made. Inequality is neither inevitable nor a natural consequence of a complex society. First thing I tell my high school seniors in a human rights course I teach.

Unfortunately, the goal is to perpetuate poverty.

But it's not, so we don't. If it was, you wouldn't vote Democrat. #DemExit

There's no money in eradicating poverty, Marianne. There's only money in exploiting the poor and vulnerable. Just get used to it. Without a revolution in this country, nothing is going to change. In fact it will get worse as capitalism eats itself.

Poverty and suffering are just too damn profitable for far too many people who are addicted to the accumulation of money and power.

There is a lot of money to be made off of poverty and this is why things have not changed!
