I stand by what I said: commentary about a female Senator's body language, clothing, or physical demeanor does not belong in a serious media outlet.

It could just as easily be argued that that Senator’s body language, clothing and physical demeanor did not belong in a serious Senate chamber. In any case, it was her vote that was the most offensive thing.

Marianne, if she did the same celebratory flourish when casting a vote to HELP working people instead of screwing them, she would be a hero and we'd be talking about how awesome it was. The flourish was repulsive because of what it celebrated, not its lack of decorum.

As far as the clothes, it's the jarring clash between a misfit iconoclast outsider aesthetic and a plutocratic callous political sensibility that drives most of the disgust. I'd welcome a freak-flag flying senator who fought for working people.
