What if we made the bottom line of all public policy the elimination of suffering and the uplift of the human spirit? What exactly are we supposed to think would fall apart?

You should do a seminar with billionaires and ask them that question. Seriously. Why are they so afraid of policies that would help alleviate human suffering?

The lifestyles of the 1% would fall apart and they'd have to live with marginal tax rates of 91% like under the Eisenhower administration. Possibly would have to trade in a 100ft yacht for only a 50' embarrassment.

The skeptic in me would say the you would never be the candidate of either party. Otherwise, I think it would have been THE standard principal driving public policy.

I like this idea. It would be eye opening to learn where the “suffering” line should be drawn. Running water; broadband; vegetable oasis
