What if we made the bottom line of all public policy the elimination of suffering and the uplift of the human spirit? What exactly are we supposed to think would fall apart?

Ummm, let’s see, I think the concept of human billionaires would fall apart if all humans have a good and happy life.

I think we'd benefit greatly by satisfying the conditions laid out in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution, at long last. Government is SUPPOSED to "promote the general Welfare.... establish Justice....insure domestic Tranquility." We have failed since day one.

Is the elimination of suffering synonymous with satisfying our basic needs? Satisfying basic needs seems possible. Suffering seems more like a personal matter. I don't think government can or should reach that deeply into our psyches.

Our stealth and drone bomber programs.
The going "theory" is that misery and the struggle to avoid misery are what drive the economy. No misery = no struggle = more comfortably lazy non-contributing couch-potatoes = lower standards of living for everyone = increased misery.

Exactly! To care for our brothers and sisters, including Mother Earth is the most influential benefit of being alive. Let’s reveal something beautiful. #TeachLove

Everyone agrees with this. The thing is...we don't all agree on how to do it.
