What if we made the bottom line of all public policy the elimination of suffering and the uplift of the human spirit? What exactly are we supposed to think would fall apart?

implicit in that bottom line is the idea that public policymakers know what that is and how to do that, and how to properly identify things that run counter to that, which i doubt i.e. render unto caesar

Suffering is always relative. What breaks 1, empowers another. Much suffering serves a purpose to strengthen people, which uplifts their spirit, their resolve of character, and the desire to achieve. Without pain, there is nothing for joy to be compared to.

Nice goals, but you would need to stop our lawmakers from making themselves rich on our backs. The anger towards our elected leaders is mounting daily. That is why we chose Trump. Because he gets it.
