I’m trying to think of a species that systematically destroys its own habitat, fails to care for and nourish its young, acts in total contradiction to the natural world - yet continues to survive and thrive. So far I haven’t been able to come up with one.

Maybe the ruling elites think they can survive catastrophic climate change or nuclear war. Added bonus of wiping out the poors who they hate so that AI and robots can do all the grunt work. When robots do most work if you’re not rich or useful to the rich your time is up.
