I’m trying to think of a species that systematically destroys its own habitat, fails to care for and nourish its young, acts in total contradiction to the natural world - yet continues to survive and thrive. So far I haven’t been able to come up with one.

Excellent rhetorical question. Thankfully, awareness is rising that our current trajectory is unsustainable. Rather than fatalistically condemning humans over past & present shortcomings, let’s envision what we can be. We can be benevolent stewards of each other & the planet.
Great article (as ever) by @JeremyRLent on creating an Ecological Civilization - along with Six Rules for Humans Hoping to Rejoin the Natural World. @yesmagazine yesmagazine.org/issue/ecolog…

The "species" you're thinking of is Capitalism, before that it was Feudalism. Unfettered greed and narcissism always acts like a cancer until it's stopped, and this time it's going to be stopped by the collapse of the ecosystem.
