1/ As extraordinary a scientific achievement as it is that NASA landed on MARS today, there are serious spiritual and moral dimensions to it that should not be ignored.

2/ Right now we seem on track to take with us to outer space the same consciousness that has done so much to destroy the earth. Space exploration is a magnificent thing; the weaponization of space is a tragic perversion of our values. Yet that is the path that we were on.

3/ Let’s teach our children today not only a deep respect for the scientific feat accomplished by the Mars landing, but also a reverence and awe before all creation...including all planets. Space exploration should make us a more humble, not a more arrogant species.

I read something yesterday that claimed domestic space exploration was to distract from the military side of what is sent into space and make people marvel over the wonderful work of NASA. Interesting twist.
