1/ As extraordinary a scientific achievement as it is that NASA landed on MARS today, there are serious spiritual and moral dimensions to it that should not be ignored.

2/ Right now we seem on track to take with us to outer space the same consciousness that has done so much to destroy the earth. Space exploration is a magnificent thing; the weaponization of space is a tragic perversion of our values. Yet that is the path that we were on.

3/ Let’s teach our children today not only a deep respect for the scientific feat accomplished by the Mars landing, but also a reverence and awe before all creation...including all planets. Space exploration should make us a more humble, not a more arrogant species.

She's not wrong, The Expanse is a pretty good depiction of what the future will be like if we bring capitalist exploitation with us to space and it ain't pretty.

Its almost as if... Humans are innately creative. And will always strive to do more. They will explore every square inch of Earth and then move on to the stars. Having a shallow, profit motivated perspective to the degree with which they do hinders progress.

Idk why y’all acting clueless in the comments. We can’t get our shit together on earth, don’t know all the species in the ocean, & just look at how humans have historically done when “discovering” other nations... like what business we got on Mars and we fuckn up our own planet?
