And I believe God should do better at explaining things while people are alive and adding to the suffering of others, and not just after they’ve already poisoned the world. But maybe that’s just me.

I believe in a God who is very tenderly explaining some things to Rush Limbaugh right now. Limbaugh I assume is very quiet and taking it all in.

Free will. He explains plenty - we’re free whether or not to listen and to take it seriously.

It’s just that “free will” is little comfort to those afflicted. I’m not sure that sort of free will befits a very loving God, either.
