Rugged individualism is an upside of the American character, but over the last few decades we’ve allowed to become rugged narcissism - at the expense of peace, justice, and people’s lives.

‘rugged individualism’ ~ what a fancy way of saying you’re on your own ~ better have friends or family willing & able to give aid when you hit bottom

I think the Rugged Narcissist might think they are better than most ... and that the poor are poor ... because they like being poor!

There are also a lot of rugged dead citizens who just couldn’t protect themselves from Covid and “pull themselves up by their bootstraps”. But as a conservative client told me four years ago when I mentioned the GOP’s cruel agenda, “Some people are just going to have to suffer”.

Rugged individualism has always been a conceit by self aggrandizing blowhards to justify their greed and lack of gratitude. Human progress is a collective effort resting upon previous advances won by collective effort.

Disagree. Rugged individualism led our country to decay & suffering. We need societies to recognize we all contribute, no matter our position, & should be cared for. Ppl succeeding happens world over. Let's make it easier by doing away w/ the idea we must do it all alone.
