We need to do a better job with civic education in this county unless we want to be nothing more than greedy people grabbing for power with no ethic of public service.
Real quote from a GOP chair in Pennsylvania on Toomey's vote: "We did not send him there to vote his conscience," the chairman of the Washington County GOP, said. "We did not send him there to do the right thing or whatever he said he was doing." washingtonpost.com/politics/…

We need to do a better job with civic education if we even want to remain a democracy.

I think that was the reason for compulsory school. Horace Mann said we need educated citizens to make things work. Our current situation shows he was right. Not enough priority given to our schools.

My controversial opinion (or it seems to be controversial) is mandatory civil service (not military).

Civics should be a required course not just one year but throughout a student’s educational career. We should start to incorporate it into the curriculum as early as Kindergarten and up through high school and college. This is a life long lesson and it shouldn’t be taken lightly!
Adopting the right attitude can convert a negative stress into a positive one..!
