The profit motive should have no place in these three areas: 1) healthcare, 2)reporting the news, and 3)the defense industry. Our world would be an infinitely better place if in those three areas profit were removed from the equation.

Whether run for profit or by appointed bureaucrats there are inherent problems with each. The key is to have accountability, transparency and honest efforts to care for humanity. Both options have horrible track records. Both also allow PARTY politics in decision making.

Totally agree. Necessity industries need to be structured as mutual companies where the customers are the owners. This way the motive is no longer on profit but instead on improving the quality of lives of the customers. Customer control and feeling of ownership is essential.
