No system survives that isn’t open to change. A generation that was hardly even born in the 20th century should feel no allegiance to its biggest mistakes.

High-minded conservatism means conserving those things that are eternally true. It has an important role in the thesis-antithesis that brings about a new synthesis.

Eisenhower said “the American mind at its best is both liberal and conservative.” At best they’re like a yin and yang. The problem is that high minded, principled conservatives no longer dominate the Republican Party.
