The collective resources of a country should belong to its people. The public treasury should not just be a slush fund for the rich.

Not necessarily. Greedy people can misuse socialism as well as capitalism; a fairytale version of socialism some people are throwing around isn’t that helpful. It’s not so much socialism versus capitalism as it is institutionalized greed versus institutionalized ethical restraint

Neither is a fairy tale version of capitalism. Those of us victimized by the “Great Recession” aren’t as tolerant of capitalism as yourself.

I'm not tolerant of unfettered capitalism. The overreaches of capitalism have become a scourge on our society, our democracy & our planet. But that overreach was allowed by the corruption of government, a corruption vastly increased by the undue influence of money on our politics

Unfettered simply means it's revealing it's true nature. Constrained capitalism doesn't solve any of the problems, it simply slows it down.

That's where we disagree but I'm not sure it matters too much. The conversation devolves when it's just about labels. The most advanced countries have elements of both capitalism and socialism, and there are many places where they overlap.

I agree that labels get in the way by over simplifying things, but there are real differences and goals between capitalism and socialism. I tend towards Democratic Socialism where there can be elements of both but non-authoritarian socialism is the goal. For example...

The Nordic countries are capitalist, even with “socialized” welfare programs so to speak. There is nothing close to collective control of the means of production, a sly reliance on US-EU imperial profiteering, high billionaires/capita, increasing deregulation etc

China just switched to Republican #Capitalism,eliminated 40% of planets poverty,saved another 60 million from starving to death under socialism,moved 800 million into the middle class.Capitalism requires best jobs/products to avoid bankruptcy. Socialism is greed for free stuff.
