It's a mingy amount. Why not do it exec action, as he probably won't lose any sleep over revisiting the remaining debt and debtors anytime soon? At least it helps modest debt amounts and whittles down some of the larger debts a bit. Not much, but something.
What do you tell people who looked at the ROI of borrowing to get a degree and made the responsible decision to not go to college? Now they compete with those with degrees and no debt? How is that fair?
Make them an offer— 5% of your income for the rest of your life in exchange for debt forgiveness.
