It's a heart-breakenly cruel, institutional system that the American society has adopted. It's a complex convergence of serious, social issues playing out in real-time.

In Berlin they were smart and gave the people a large lump sum, then the smaller sums. It does no good, and is a waste of all the money to give people only enough to pay some bills. People need to be able to make larger plans, and that takes a larger amount of money all at once.

More publicity about what each of the "civilized" countries is contributing to their citizens would help influence public sentiment.

Republican politicians could care less about average or poor Americans. They answer to their corporate donors, their overlords. They don't care about you. As bad as Democrats are, Republican politicians are worse. Don't lose sight of that.
