In a country where even before the pandemic 40% of Americans could not afford a $400 unexpected expenditure, how do our esteemed elected officials assume people are surviving?

It wasn't that long ago that @NickHanauer gave a TED Talk that ended in something like "it's either pitchforks or a Police State." I fear that decision had already long been made by then. It's only amazing to me who thought they'd a right to the pitchforks...

Apparently by putting them out of work, raising gas prices, insulin/epi prices, reversing Trump tax cuts and possibly imposing a tax on miles driven...thats in a week.
