Warren's #WealthTax plan calls for 2% over $500M, 1% more for over $1 billion. No one at that level of wealth would see any difference whatsoever in their lifestyle, but millions of people would see a fundamental difference in their lives based on what we could do with the money.

Correction: her plan is for 2% over $50M, not $500M.

But it was close to that long before and long after WWII.
I know this cant be applied across the board.. But like.. You could tax jeff bezos 99% one time and he would still be a billionaire. Thats a problem.

Is it? Or is idle dynastic wealth ridiculous? I’m well off, I don’t begrudge wealthy people their riches. But they can do more and a wealth tax is a reasonable way to implement it. It’s likely to spur more productivity too. They’ll want to raise their incomes to avoid sale.
The trick is to persuade all the other nice places to implement similar wealth taxes.
Gross. There's no reason in the world a parent shouldn't be able to transfer their wealth to a child. People being obsessed with "earning" money is the reason people are so broke anyways. In the mean time, why is the USA the only industrialized country with no VAT ?

If capitalists cannot be generous in making sure the majority are cared for then something needs to be done differently. It would be nice to go out and make a profit and pass it forward but human greed does not allow for that.

i say 25% over 10M, going up to 50% over 50 Million and 100% at 1 Billion. a regular person can live a whole lifetime with 10M while providing for a family, so they should be fine ;)

Awesome but the truth is the federal government does not need tax revenue to invest in the American economy (MMT). We can put people back to work transforming our infrastructure NOW so we have some hope of surviving ecological blowback from fossil fuel industry.

Why are we afraid to discomfort the lifestyles of billionaires? 99% wealth tax for over $1 billion. No one at that level of wealth would struggle whatsoever in their lifestyle, but Billions of people would see a fundamental difference in their lives with the money.
