1/ We have to be intentional about rooting out conditions that led to the emergence of an authoritarian leader. Something we have to insist on is that American kids start learning civics again. Too many Americans have no clue how democracy works or what it is we need to protect.

2/ Only 9 states & DC require a year of U.S. government or civics, while 30 states require a 1/2 year & the other 11 states have no civics requirement. This is a crisis. I remember looking at footage of rioters at the Capitol thinking, “These people have no idea where they are.”

With modernity influencing everything today, and leaving all the vitalities of the old obsolete, but current demands require some revision of the old norms to be reintegrated in this modern system. This is where civics must come to the forefront, for modern politics to thrive...

Civics classes are not going to do it. What Donald Trump taught us is that anyone with half a brain can easily end-run all those checks and balances by appointing “acting” heads of departments, signing a blizzard of executive orders, lying directly to the press vis Twitter, etc.

Every president in my lifetime has been on the authoritarian axis. The parties nominate authoritarians, the rich fund their campaigns, the corporate MSM pushes them and gives them cover and then we're left with 2 authoritarians to vote for 🤷

Indeed, could we survive the election of another Kamala Harris?

People who come to this country and go thru the citizenship courses know more about it than people who grow up here! That's seriously sad!!

Here's a radical idea: start the civics education in pre-K. Science also.

Define “authoritarian leader” because “leaders” like Kamala, Schumer, Pelosi and the Squad are all advocating for government control of healthcare, education, income for citizens...

Yes, that along with ethics and statistics too.
