A corporation is a legal entity. It was never expected to care. The people in management and owners of the corporation, typically, the same people, were grateful to its long-term stewards. The modern workforce is transient. Your notions are romantic, but are out of touch.

Adam Smith said free market capitalism could not exist outside an ethical context. Regulations existed previous to 1980s to guarantee some level of alignment between corporate forces & basic human values. Without such regulations unfettered capitalism becomes a destructive force.

What regulations are you referring to as to Basic Human Values? Minimum wage? Child labor law? Right to Collective Bargaining? We still have those. You are so vague that you make it impossible to pin you down. It's not sincere.
