A corporation is a legal entity. It was never expected to care. The people in management and owners of the corporation, typically, the same people, were grateful to its long-term stewards. The modern workforce is transient. Your notions are romantic, but are out of touch.

Adam Smith said free market capitalism could not exist outside an ethical context. Regulations existed previous to 1980s to guarantee some level of alignment between corporate forces & basic human values. Without such regulations unfettered capitalism becomes a destructive force.

You're right, we shouldn't take money from poor people and hand it out to rich corporations. That's just theft. But so also is any other time you take something, from anybody, no matter what you want to do with it So how do we step in, without becoming the evil we wish to expel?

A-Woman! Since early 80's, I've witnessed the slow boil, downward spiral that has ripped away any sense of security and stability for Americans. There is no "promote the general welfare" anymore. America is a sick nation.

Corporations _used_to_ pay 100% for healthcare. In 60's and 70's, no one saw a bill. It was not even an issue for the national debate. It was all taken care of. Better days. Back then there were protected pensions too.
