By allowing him to remain in office til Wednesday at noon, they’re giving him the chance to pre-pardon Horn Man Chansley and any others involved in the capitol riot - to then become celebrities and leaders of their insurrectionist movement. How extraordinarily irresponsible.

Is this precedent? Did previous presidents remain in office until noon on inauguration day?

It also cements his political influence among a faction of his movement that is then politically immune from legal recourse. It would be a nightmare scenario really.
Plus I thought pardons were not allowed for crimes involved in the commission of insurrection?

If he pardons them he makes it easier to build a criminal conspiracy case against him. No?
